Off the Shuttles: Ring Around the Ring

I took a break from the proficiency program assignments to make this little motif.  It's a vintage edging pattern that was made into a ring.  I used Lizbeth #121 marble and white in size 20.  It's a lot smaller than the photo indicates.  It's only 2" across.  The pattern can be found here:  http://tinyurl.com/j9algbv .  The coloration didn't exactly turn out as I had envisioned.  It will still look pretty hanging on a Christmas tree.

It's pretty easy and doesn't take a lot of thinking.  I'll probably make it as an edging for a hankie. 

Update 1-28-2016:  The pattern for the ring can also be found in The DMC Book of Charted Tatting Designs by Kirstine Nickolajsen & Inge Lise Nikolajsen on page 12.  It's simply called No. 2: Round Motif. The book is still available through Amazon and second hand online book sellers.

Christmas Gifts 2015

For my youngest daughter, I made a jeans apron.  It was so easy to make.  The hardest part was figuring out what size tie to make. I'll probably make a few more.  I bought several pairs of jeans from Goodwill to use.

For oldest daughter, I machine embroidered some kitchen towels in a beach theme.  They're ok.  I'm disappointed that the towel itself is distorted.







For the deacon, I machine embroidered a picture.  I had a ton of ideas which made it very difficult to decide on what to make until he gave a homily on which this was the theme.  After I made it, I had to decide how to finish it.  Thankfully I found this green frame at JoAnn's.  It matches the green of the leaves perfectly.

It's finally finished!  I decided to not wait for Spring softball season. Tatting with the Tatsy shuttle wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Yes, it's big but with a large enough ring, it's just fine to work with.


 

Off the Shuttles: Easy Tatted Cross

I really like this cross pattern.  It's easy and tats up quickly.  I finished it last night.  I probably should have made the tail longer but I was tired of doing the balanced double stitch.  I made it for the deacon's sister-in-law as a thank you for making sure the doily went with the Pope when he returned to the Vatican last month.
